Back when I first started getting into studio lighting, I called one of my good friends and told her I have an idea a black and white boudoir style shoot. I sent her a photo I found online and she loved it! but could I actually do it was the challenge? She was more than thrilled to be my test subject. by doing test shoots there is no better way to learn something. She was a blast to shoot with, super patient as well. Thank goodness for that! because what started off as a three light set up, then became two and later just using the one.
One light one soft-box, being moved around more times than I’d light to admit. Later found the sweet 45-degree angle and the look I wanted was set. funny thing bout when I was learning how to work the lights, I thought I’d have to have the studio (parents garage) 🙂 completely dark. (i didn’t even know what the modeling light was for) For anyone who used a Canon 5d Mark II, they can imagine the focusing nightmare. I also had no light meter and since I never went to school for photography all I had to go on was what I learned from Zack Arias, One Light DVD. *Great DVD btw* I always find myself saying, “shutter controls the ambient, aperture controls the flash”
Natasha was one of my first boudoir sessions back in 2011. From there it became a series that I titled SexyBlack.
