Yep just like Instagram, this is goin to be my new weekly post. Throwback Thursday back to 2007 my first wedding, well actually my first two weddings. One was my brothers friend and the other was my Uncle. My first wedding I shot for $300. and when the groom handed me cash I said “wow thats way too much” and I happily did it! I not only burned the photos to a disc, I made a slide show on a DVD using iDVD.
I had no idea what I was doing that day but I had my Canon Rebel with my 18-55mm lens that came with it, a Canon 430 EX flash and a Tamron 28-200 f/3.5 lens and that lens. The auto focus was so loud and slow, I think I paid $200. for it. but that lens kicked ass for 2 years before I sold it and upgraded. Oh! by the way, I “rented” that flash. I used to go to Circuit City and buy my photo stuff, use it, then take it back with in 30days and get my money back.
Just check out the direct flash, I’m pretty sure I had it on TTL but that little Speedlite 430ex puts out some PUNCH.
(below) Well other than the beautiful direct flash, this is probably the most unflattering angle ever.
If you look closely you’ll notice these photos have a glow to it. Back then I use to do this thing in Photoshop were I’d add a blur and then set the layer to “screen”. That gave it a glow.
below is just an example as some bad Photoshop. far right could have used some bounce flash or a higher ISO and or aperture.
(below) I think was one of my favorite pictures that stayed in my portfolio for years. To this day I still like them.Selective Color this was a trend back in the day, like when Airbrushed overalls, Vanilla Ice and Kriss Kross were in style. looking back, it still bugs me.
lastly… check out the vignette on this.. looks like I just took a lighter and burned the edges
Five years from now I’ll be looking back and the photos I shot today and hopefully will be saying “what was I thinking” and that’ll be a good thing, it just means my style and technique has evolved.
Throwback Thursday …HOLLAH!!!!
